The Project
For this project we had to create a board game that involved different chemical reactions. We based our board game off the up and coming 2022 Winter Olympics, we called our board game Winter Olympics The Game. We came up with this idea because we had a white board so we decided that a winter snowy theme was definitely the way to go. We had about a month to finish the project and when we were finished our project we had to present at the Chemical dominoes game night on December 5th.
The Game
Our game is played with 4 game pieces; an ice-skate, a snowboard, a pair of ski's, and a snowman who's dream it is to be in the Olympics. You use 2 dice to play, one that is white which determines how many spaces you move, and a red one that will determine if you move right or left, if it is an odd you move left and even you move right. But you do not add the number to the amount you move unless you roll a double like a pair of six's then you would move 12 spaces. Our safety precautions are this game is made for children 10+ because there are chemicals that should not be ingested. Like play dough fun to play but not to eat.
The Reactions
The First Reaction
The first short cut you reach is the ice rink and you accidentally "left your skate on the ice and it fell in the water", this is our single displacement reaction which you pour copper nitrate(which is our water) into a container which has a piece of aluminum foil(Which is your ice skate). This chemical reaction breaks apart the the aluminum foil which lights are yellow LED light. This reaction happens because aluminum is higher on the reactivity series than copper. The chemical formula for the reaction is: Cu(NO3)2 + Al2 -> Cu + Al2(NO3)2.

The Second Reaction
Our second reaction is at the start of the ski lift, when you get there you have a choice to choose from 3 balloons, each hanging from a tube filled with a liquid. Each balloon contains baking soda, but below one has baking soda and the other 2 have water. If you chose the one with vinegar at the bottom and create our production of gas reaction, then you get to skip to the end of the ski lift. The baking soda and vinegar creates a gas which is carbon dioxide. the chemical formula is: CH3COOH +NaHCO3 = CH3COONa + CO2 + H2O.

The Third Reaction
Our third and final reaction is the double displacement reaction, the first person to reach the tree has to create their "gold metal". The person who reaches this point must pour calcium nitrate and iron chloride. This creates a gold color when you mix both of the chemicals. The calcium in this experiment trades its nitrate ion for the sodium's chloride ion, causing the sodium to pick up the nitrate anion. The chemical equation for it is: FeCl3 + Ca(NO3)2 -> Fe(NO3)2 + CaCl3.

Content
Single displacement reaction: a type of chemical reaction where an element reacts with a compound and takes the place of another element in that compound.
Double Displacement reaction: is a type of chemical reaction where two compounds react, and the positive ions (cation) and the negative ions (anion) of the two reactants switch places
Reactivity Series: It is used to determine the products of single displacement reactions
Anion: a negatively charged ion
Cation:a positively charged ion

Reflection
Over all this project was very fun and challenging. A peak of mine was my work ethic and doing everything I could to benefit my team, bring supplies always working on something. A pit would be my empathy I could have definitely been more understanding. I also did great on cooperating, my group members would ask me to paint or start working on putting in chemical reactions and I was right on it. I could have been more of a leader I kinda just worked and did what the group told me too which still ended up great.
